Once again, the track sets a clear distinction from Kid Cudi’s old work and the new band WZRD, with some a guitar rift straight from your favorite 90’s band. The introduction ends and the listener is brought to the track “High Off Life” which speaks to Cudi’s decision to be drug free when creating his music (shocking as countless Cudi Playlists in the past had been tailored for zoning out after burning). The track picks up quickly, and slowly dies down to a hauntingly slow rhythm, which left me feeling restless. The album opens with an instrumental track, “The Arrival” which sets an ambient tone for the rest of the tracks, with clear hip hop influences and a guitar rift that reminds me a lot of Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin. This album transgresses what long time fans could have possibly expected.

This being said, those of you expecting the typical Cudi sound can turn back now. The band WZRD is a duo consisting of Kid Cudi and record producer Dot da Genius. Technically, the album is self titled, as Cudi is no longer a solo artist. A huge Cudi fan, I couldn’t help but to take a listen to what Cudi hailed to be a transgression into the alternative rock genre. Today, Kid Cudi’s much anticipated album WZRD, leaked today to the rest of the internet.
